UC Berkeley Students Partner with Salesian College Preparatory for a Second Year

In an inspiring collaboration, students enrolled in an upper-division education course at UC Berkeley have teamed up with Salesian College Preparatory for the second year to provide academic support and college guidance to its students. This partnership offers Salesian students personalized 1:1 tutoring and valuable insight into navigating the college application process, bridging the gap between high school and higher education. Fourteen Berkeley students have been on campus every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. 

The UC Berkeley undergraduates bring fresh energy and recent experience navigating academics and college admissions, which helps Salesian students build confidence and develop effective study skills. By offering tailored academic assistance, the Berkeley students help students tackle challenging coursework, improve grades, and foster a deeper love of learning.

In addition to academic tutoring, the program includes guidance on college readiness. Year after year, Salesian students earn acceptances into top-tier universities, and working with Berkeley further assists students in selecting colleges and understanding application requirements. This holistic support helps navigate the college journey, empowering Salesian students to set and achieve higher education goals with confidence.

For the UC Berkeley students, this fieldwork partnership provides hands-on experience in education and mentorship, enriching their understanding of teaching practices and community engagement. The collaboration cultivates empathy, communication skills, and a commitment to educational equity. Overall, this partnership, housed within UC Links, strengthens community ties and inspires both groups of students to grow academically and personally.
