Black History Month and Women’s History Month at Salesian
Salesian eNewsletter

The last couple of months have been filled with exciting educational experiences, such as celebrating key components rich and so important to our history. Throughout the month of February, our African American Association of Knowledge Club (AAAK, or “Triple A, K”) spent each day providing insight on Black leaders who helped shape our world and leave imprints on the lives of those who have the potential to become leaders one day. During the last week of Black History Month, AAAK hosted an African American Heritage Celebration.

The ceremony began with Junior Kai Reed’s rendition of “Lift Every Voice,” originally sung by Michael Cooper. The assembly continued with guest speaker Frank Clayton, who inspired our students to develop a positive self-image and understand mindsets to achieve the goals they set for themselves. The assembly concluded with various dance routines by our students, including a group of our senior girls who provided a hip-hop dance. Thank you, AAAK, for putting together a lovely assembly to celebrate Black History.

Women’s History Month in March was then kicked off by our We Can Do It Club providing “trivia” questions each morning during our morning announcements. These questions and clues inspired students to learn about the achievements of women of the past, present, and future. Our students were awarded prizes for their correctly submitted answers, and the We Can Do It Club continues to provide opportunities for our school community to learn more. Hats off to the WCDI Club for their work in fostering a culture of empowerment and inclusivity.

The most important factor that the Salesian community took away from both experiences is that the learning and celebrating of these important people does not stop just because the months that are dedicated to them are over. Instead, the Salesian community promotes taking time to celebrate Black History and Women’s History every day of the year!
