“As a community driven school, the food drive gives Salesian students the opportunity to give back to our community. It allows us to share with those who may not have the opportunities that we do.”
-Willow W. '25, Fuiloro Faith Family Leader
In order to instill in our students the importance of participating in community service, investing in one's community and giving back, each of our students must fulfill their personal service commitments throughout the academic year. Each year every Salesian student must complete four service projects. In the Winter season, the two service projects are the Thanksgiving Food Drive and Project Santa.
The Thanksgiving Food Drive at Salesian College Preparatory embodies the school's commitment to service and compassion to community. For years, Salesian has partnered with organizations like St. Vincent de Paul Society of West Contra County to provide meals to those in need. St. Vincent de Paul serves families in our neighboring communities of Richmond, San Pablo and El Sobrante. An astonishing 80 meals were built, consisting of:
- Gift Card to purchase a Turkey
- Mashed Potatoes and Yams
- Stuffing
- Pasta and Pasta Sauce
- Green Beans and Peas
- Corn and Carrots
- Cornbread andCranberry Sauce
- Fruit Cocktail
- Pie Ingredients
Service Projects like these are done within Faith Families, comprised of members of each grade level and two moderators from the Faculty and Staff. Each of our students, faculty, staff, and administration donated canned goods and other food items making the food drive a success. Thank you to our Salesian Families for their support of our Service Learning Projects, a testament to the understanding that a Salesian education calls us to be good faith filled people and honest and upright citizens.
