On the weekend of April 30-May 1, the Salesian Robotics team met up at the Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley one more time for the final competition of the year. Supported by their awesome mentor and graduate from U.C. Berkeley, Matthew Harrigon, the team emerged victorious in the final round to capture the PiE (Pioneers in Engineering) Championship once again. Faculty Moderator Patrick Bender was inspired by the camaraderie, hard work, and determination of his team of about ten students. “It was great for the students to interact with Cal grads and undergrads in the Computer Engineering Department. They really all had so much fun!”

Senior Collin Freking commented, “Even though it’s a competition where some teams win and others lose, it is still very fun because you meet people who share or enjoy the same interests as you such as competitive games, mechanical engineering, or computer programming. This competition encourages ideas to come to life.” Janko, the 2022 Salesian robot, came to life this year based on the tireless efforts of the entire robotics team. Make sure you check out the Robotics team during the Club Fair in September, and get ready to defend the title!
