Faculty, students, and families gathered together to support a Salesian student

Students, families, and faculty recently came together in a powerful display of community and compassion at a pancake breakfast fundraiser held at the Salesian Cafe. Organized to support classmate Xavier Garcia ‘27 as he battles Leukemia, the event was a heartfelt reminder of what it means to stand by one another in times of need.

Held on Sunday, March 22nd, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the fundraiser was sponsored by Cancer Patient Support Club, one of the many student-led clubs on campus. Club leaders Pua ‘26 and Anella ‘26, and Mr. Worthy Gutierrez, Biology Teacher and Club Moderator, with over 25 students, they are, in the words of Mr. Farr, “an embodiment of what leadership is at Salesian.”

The event welcomed a steady stream of supporters who gathered to share a meal and contribute to a meaningful cause. The event successfully raised funds while fostering a warm, uplifting atmosphere filled with generosity and hope.

From flipping pancakes to serving guests, students played an active role in making the event run smoothly. Their enthusiasm and dedication reflected a deep sense of unity and care for their fellow classmate, who made a surprise visit with his family. Mr. Farr gave a moving and centering speech with a message to Xavier: “This is a journey you are not battling alone. You have your family and village with you.”

The success of the pancake breakfast was more than just financial; it was a true embodiment of Salesian spirit, especially during the season of Lent. Rooted in kindness, service, and solidarity, the event showed how the school community can come together not only to support one of its own, but also to inspire others through acts of compassion.
