A New Club Brings Hope to St. Anthony's

In today's challenging times, when many families face financial stress and rising living costs, a clothing drive can make a meaningful difference. This year, The Salesian Thrift Club is hosting a clothing drive, providing not only shirts, pants, or jackets, but comfort, support, and hope.

The Salesian Thrift Club was created by Uriel Escobar ‘27, who currently serves as the Club President. His idea came from his desire to use a shared interest to implement change. “Thrifting has become a hobby for people like myself. I wanted to find a way to use our hobby to implement change, and to unite our school community with the external community.”

Throughout the third week of November (11/17-11/21), the Thrift Club will be collecting new and gently used beanies, hoodies, sweaters, coats, tshirts, jeans, sweats, and shoes with their ‘Open Closet Clothing Drive.’ Donations will support St. Anthony's Foundation, giving folks access to warm and clean clothes. This simple act can help people focus on other essentials.

Contributions to the ‘Open Closet Clothing Drive’ can be dropped off outside the school office until November 21.

Aligning with the overall goals of Salesian charism, a clothing drive allows students to live out Salesian values such as kindness, service, and respect. By collecting and organizing clothing, students learn empathy and understand the needs of people around them. It also strengthens teamwork and leadership skills.

We look forward to The Thrift Club’s future projects and learning more about how Salesian Clubs continue to inspire.
