Salesian Boys Basketball at the 2025 Gridley Tournament

The middle of December featured a consistent schedule of competition for the Salesian College Preparatory winter sports programs. As a "Nike Elite" designated program, our basketball teams faced high-caliber regional opponents, while our soccer teams navigated a series of challenging non-league matchups both at home and on the road.

The Boys’ Varsity Basketball team, currently ranked among the top programs in California, maintained an undefeated 5-0 season record through the mid-month stretch. Competing in the prestigious Gridley Invitational from December 11 to December 13, the Pride secured three consecutive victories. The tournament run began with a 75-41 win over Gridley, followed by a narrow 74-68 victory against Folsom. The team concluded the invitational by defeating Modesto Christian 71-53. These results continue to build momentum as the squad prepares for upcoming national showcases, including The Classic at Damien.

The Girls’ Varsity Basketball team also tested itself against a rigorous December slate, finishing this period with a 2-2 record. After a home loss to Redwood (43-54) on December 9, the Pride responded with a 53-50 road win at Marin Catholic on December 11. The team returned to the Salesian gymnasium on December 16, earning a 63-36 victory over Jesse M. Bethel, before traveling to San Francisco on December 20 for a competitive 46-55 contest against St. Ignatius.

In soccer action, the Girls’ Varsity Soccer program earned two notable victories this month. On December 12, the team traveled to Oakland and secured a 5-2 win. They followed this with a 1-0 shutout victory at home against St. Patrick-St. Vincent on December 18. The Boys’ Varsity Soccer team faced a demanding stretch of road games, including 1-0 and 2-1 losses to Albany and Saint Mary’s, respectively. However, the Pride ended the month’s slate on a high note with a 2-0 shutout victory away at Marin Catholic on December 20.

These December contests provide a strong foundation for our student-athletes as they transition into Tri-County Athletic League (TCAL) play. We invite the Salesian community to continue supporting the Pride by checking the school calendar for upcoming home games and tournament schedules.
