Summer Sports Camps and Enrichment Programs
Salesian College Preparatory offers a variety of Red & Black Summer Sports Camps and Enrichment Programs for 4th - 8th graders. All camps and programs will be run "rain or shine."

Boys and Girls Club $25.00:
The Salesian Boys & Girls Club is offering extended care from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm for any student who attends one of our enrichment camps. The Salesian Boys & Girls Club is located directly behind our school building and the cost is only $25.00 for the entire week of camp. The Boys & Girls Club has an art room, computer lab, game room and full basketball court. It's a great way to have fun and make new friends. This is an optional add-on.
Red & Black Sports Camps
Our co-ed sports camps run from June through July, 9am - 3pm. Sport camps prices are $125 to $240 per week and include a camp t-shirt. Campers should bring a bag lunch, water bottle, and sunscreen (if applicable). Camps are for 4th - 8th graders.

Session I: June 18—22; Session II: June 25—29; Session III: July 9—13, 2018
Cost: $175.00 per session.
The Red and Black Basketball Camps are led by Salesian Boys' Basketball Head Coach and former California Coach of the Year, Bill Mellis.
The Red and Black Basketball Camps provide outstanding instruction, including individual fundamentals and team play and building confidence through drills and team play for boys and girls.
- Offensive and defensive drills will be introduced.
- Free Throw and Hot Shot Competitions will be organized.
- 5 on 5 Team Competitions will occur, as well as 3 on 3 competitions.
Academic and personal goal setting will be discussed and a guest speaker will make a presentation. This camp is designed to make each athlete a better basketball player in a fun environment where campers can make new friends.
Campers should bring: Water bottle and a bag lunch.
July 9--13, 2018
Cost: $125.00 per session. 11 AM to 3 PM
The Red and Black Tennis Camp will be led by the Salesian Boys and Girls Tennis Coach Gary Hazard and will emphasize the fundamentals of tennis:
- Proper Grips
While developing a love for the game, athletes will learn the rules and etiquette that help make tennis a lifelong game. Indicate on the camp application whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced player.
Campers should bring: Tennis shoes, a tennis racket, and appropriate clothing for the week. They should also bring a sunscreen, water bottle and a bag lunch.
July 16 - 20, 2018
Cost: $175.00 per session.
The Red and Black Volleyball Camp will be led by Salesian Varsity Girls Volleyball Coach Denise Hoh and will consist of several stations and drills:
- Blocking – Footwork and technique
- Digging – Form and technique
- Passing – Form and technique
- Serving – Form and technique
- Setting – Form and technique
Fun relays will be included throughout the week, as well as a player evaluation of appropriate team position based on ability. A tournament will occur on the last day of the camp.
Campers should bring: Knee pads, tennis shoes, athletic shorts or spandex, water bottle and a bag lunch.
July 16--20, 2018
Cost: $175 per person
This one week camp will be led by the Salesian's Varsity baseball coach and will include offensive, defensive and mental drills to help improve the skills set of youth baseball players. This will include:
- Position specific and team defensive skill competitions
- Offensive skill competitions
- Team competition to complete the week
This camp will also include ways to improve the mental approach to the game of baseball with guests speakers from former college baseball players.
Campers should bring: A glove, water bottle, baseball bat and athletic shoes/baseball cleats.
Girls Basketball Skills Development Clinic

This Basketball Clinic is specifically tailored for the 4th to 8th grade girl interested in improving her fundamental basketball skills. The clinic is led by Salesian College Preparatory Head Coach Steve Pezzola and members of his coaching staff. Coach Pezzola has several years of basketball coaching experience at both the high school and AAU level. The staff is expected to include Dustin Hirashima, Bernard Brown, Justin Reid, Greg Ginsburg, Alana Horton, Isabell Ampon, Richard Rincon, Justin Rollolazo, Sam Sims as well as other guest coaches and members of the Pride Varsity Basketball team.
Our enrichment programs are offered at different dates throughout the summer. Enrichment programs are for 4th - 8th graders. Times and prices vary per program.
Session I: July 16 - 20, 2018
9am - 3pm
Cost: $240.00 per session
Middle school students have a unique opportunity to learn about the outdoors in fun, safe and exciting ways. Salesian students alumni will be on hand to help lead and supervise program activities. Join us in hiking, rock climbing, biking, kayaking, swimming and beach exploration in this summer outdoor adventure program.
About the Teacher:
Dr. Elizabeth Coscia is an outdoor enthusiast who has been teaching biology and environmental science at Salesian since 2008. She is the club moderator for the Salesian Hiking Club and she has traveled with her students on exciting science-focused adventures to Costa Rica, Florida, Iceland, the Galapagos Islands, and most recently to New Zealand.
On the 1st day, students should sign-in on the 2nd floor of the school in classroom 209.
Session I: July 23-27, in the Cafeteria
Time: 9am - 1pm
This one-week introductory cooking course will focus on basic skills needed for students in 5-8th grade to learn how to cook simple and easy meals. Each day will focus on particular skills and recipes. A variety of food types and styles from various cultures will be featured. There will be plenty of hands on experiences and, of course, we will eat the product of all our work.
About the Teacher:
Mr. Adrian Mison Fulay has been teaching for over 20 years. He loves to travel and cook - he’s taken several cooking classes in different countries. His favorite things to cook and eat, are Italian and Chinese foods.
Class size is limited to 12 students and is for 5th - 8th graders.
