Red and Black Enrichment Camps

Basketball Camps: $175.00 per session.

Session I: June 18-22; Session II: June 25-29; Session III: July 9-13

The Red and Black Basketball Camps are led by Salesian Boys' Basketball Head Coach and 2012 California Coach of the Year, Bill Mellis.

The Red and Black Basketball Camps provide outstanding instruction, including individual fundamentals, team play for boys and girls and building confidence through:

  • Offensive and defensive drills
  • Free Throw and Hot Shot Competitions
  • 5 on 5 Team Competitions, as well as 3 on 3 competitions.

Academic and personal goal setting will be discussed and a guest speaker will make a presentation. This camp is designed to make each athlete a better basketball player in a fun environment where campers can make new friends.

Campers should bring: Water bottle and a bag lunch.

Tennis Camp: $125.00 per session. 11am to 3 pm

Session I: July 9-13

The Red and Black Tennis Camp will be led by the Salesian Boys and Girls Tennis Coach Gary Hazard and will emphasize the fundamentals of tennis:

  • Footwork
  • Proper Grips
  • Serves
  • Strokes
  • Volleys

While developing a love for the game, athletes will learn the rules and etiquette that help make tennis a lifelong game. Indicate on the camp application whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced player.

Campers should bring: Tennis shoes, a tennis racket, and appropriate clothing for the week. They should also bring sunscreen, water bottle and a bag lunch.

Volleyball Camp: $175.00 per session

Session I: July 23-27

The Red and Black Volleyball Camp will be led by Salesian Varsity Girls Volleyball Coach Denise Hoh and will consist of several stations and drills:

  • Blocking – Footwork and technique
  • Digging – Form and technique
  • Passing – Form and technique
  • Serving – Form and technique
  • Setting – Form and technique

Fun relays will be included throughout the week, as well as a player evaluation of appropriate team position based on ability. A tournament will occur on the last day of the camp.

Campers should bring: Knee pads, tennis shoes, athletic shorts or spandex, water bottle and a bag lunch.

Baseball: $175.00

Session I: July 16-20

This one week camp will be led the Salesian Varsity baseball coach’s and will include offensive, defensive and mental drills to help improve the skill set of youth baseball players. This will include; position specific and team defensive skill competitions, offensive skill competitions, and a team competition to complete the week. This camp will also include ways to improve the mental approach to the game of baseball with guest speakers from former college baseball players.

Campers should bring: a glove, water bottle, baseball bat and athletic shoes/baseball cleats.

Let’s Eat: $200.00

Session I: July 23-27

This one-week introductory cooking course will focus on basic skills needed for students in 5-8th grade to learn how to cook simple and easy meals. Each day will focus on particular skills and recipes. A variety of food types and styles from various cultures will be featured. There will be plenty of hands on experiences and, of course, we will eat the product of all our work.

Outdoor Adventures: $240 per session

Session I: July 16-20

Middle school students have a unique opportunity to learn about the outdoors in fun, safe and exciting ways. Salesian student alumni will be on hand to help lead and supervise program activities. Join us on hiking, rock climbing, biking, kayaking, swimming and beach exploration in this summer outdoor adventure program.

About the Teacher:

Dr. Elizabeth Coscia is an outdoor enthusiast who has been teaching biology and environmental science at Salesian for 8 years. She is the club moderator for the Salesian Hiking Club and she has traveled with her students on exciting science-focused adventures to Costa Rica, Florida, Iceland and most recently to the Galapagos Islands.

On the 1st day, students should sign-in on the 2nd floor in classroom 209.
