This year begins as no other has in the long history of Salesian College Preparatory. As all of you know, because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, academic classes are currently hosted via distance learning. Moving forward, as soon as the State of California and Contra Costa County allow, Salesian will move to a hybrid academic teaching schedule where students will be on campus a few days per week.
In terms of sports, the CIF took the unprecedented steps of 1. Pushing back the start of sports until at least December 15th, and 2. Combining the usual three seasons of sport (fall, winter, and spring) into two seasons of sport (winter and spring). Although the news to push back the sports calendar and to consolidate the seasons were not decisions coaches and athletes liked, the silver lining to the method used by the CIF does mean that sports will be able to conduct full length seasons with post-season competition. At Salesian, our fall sports will include cross country, football, and boys' and girls' volleyball. Our spring sports will include boys' and girls' soccer, boys' and girls' basketball, boys' and girls' tennis, golf, baseball, softball, swimming, and track and field. Conditioning for our various sports will begin when and where safe and permissible, so please look for announcements about our sports.
Salesian is also excited to announce the addition of two new faces to our coaching ranks, although neither are new to our school community. Taking over the girls' soccer program for the 2020-2021 season is Salesian alum Meghan Bradbury, a recent University of California, Davis graduate. Meghan was an outstanding all-league athlete at Salesian in both soccer and softball, and she competed collegiately at UC Davis as a scholarship athlete. In baseball, Salesian alum Tino Leite will take over the reigns for Coach Nick Boyett who has returned to Concordia University as a graduate assistant coach where he will earn a Master's degree. Coach Leite comes to Salesian after serving as a coach at Pinole Valley High School and Contra Costa College. As a player at Salesian, Coach Leite was an all-league performer.
Our community welcomes these two new coaches and we look forward to their guiding our programs.
