The philosophy of the Mathematics Department is to develop an understanding and an appreciation of the subject in every student, focusing on mathematical truths rather than solely reducing the subject to purely mathematical applications. It is important that each educated person develop deductive reasoning skills, practical math skills, analytical skills and an understanding of spatial relationships. Depending on the interests of the individual, a student may be directed toward the practical or theoretical end of mathematics.

Through Physical Education, an individual has the opportunity to learn to perform efficiently the motor skills that he or she needs in everyday living and in recreational activities. The student can develop and maintain sound physiological functions through vigorous physical activity. He or she may increase the awareness of his or her physical self. Through expressive and creative activities, the student may enhance his or her aesthetic appreciation and improve his or her self-esteem.

The Religious Studies Department attempts to carry out in an intentional and holistic manner the mission of Salesian College Preparatory to educate students to develop into good Christian women and men whose lives and accomplishments will benefit humankind and give glory to God. To this end the Department seeks to emphasize in its four year program the spiritual development of the young person and its effects on the well being of each student. At the same time, the Religious Studies Department seeks to present the young people with the Christian principles at the heart of the Roman Catholic Church as expressed specifically through the spirit’s gift of the Salesian charism.

The science department endeavors to generate, in every student, the curiosity to ask the question why? Our classes are designed to provide an environment that is conducive to developing an interest and appreciation for both the living and non-living ecosystems that surround every individual. Students are able to explore all aspects of the scientific world through a variety of courses surveying many topics. In every class, the scientific method guides the pupil in his or her pursuit of the answers to many scientific questions.

The department intends to foster each student's artistic, musical or dramatic capabilities in order to allow the student to express his or her creativity. Through world language study, students are encouraged to view another culture as valuable in itself and worthy to be accepted on its own terms. In their world language courses, students will increase their knowledge and appreciation of the existing diversity among the world’s peoples.
