Christina McAfee

Class of 2000
Mathematics Department Chair

I feel like I have been in school all my life! After graduating from Salesian, I attended St. Mary's College in Moraga. After earning a B.A. in Mathematics and needing employment, I took a position here at Salesian in the summer. Fortunately, I was hired for the next school year and I have been here ever since. I am now the Department Chair and I still love my job just as much as my first year. I enjoy the challenges of teaching math and I strive to keep the same spirit I felt while attending Salesian alive. As a long time Giants fan I hope to someday attend my first World Series parade... why are they always scheduled during school!

Mariella Nightingale

World Languages - Department Chair, World Languages - Spanish
I entered undergraduate studies in Lima, Peru in 1985 at Inca Garcilaso de la Vega University to study elementary education. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, I began teaching at Jefferson English School in Lima, a job I held for four years. Because of the political situation in Peru in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, I moved to the United States, working for a year at Berkwood Hedge School in Berkeley. In 1994, I interviewed for a Spanish position at Salesian, and I fell in love with the school, its atmosphere, and the students. Although I had never thought about teaching at a Catholic school, I quickly realized that as a Catholic, and as someone passionate about teaching, Salesian was the perfect place for me. I have been at Salesian for 21 years now, and in that time I have completed a Master’s in Secondary Education, and I obtained a Cleared California Credential in Spanish.

Cecilia O'Brien

World Languages

I'm from Peru, I came to California 15 years ago. I taught in Peru for eight years and now this is my 14th year teaching at Salesian. I feel lucky to have the opportunity to teach Spanish to the young kids. I think knowing two languages doubles my chances to help educate my students and assist more in the Salesian community.

Janet O'Hair

Visual and Performing Arts

A fourth generation Californian, I moved east to study and hold BFA in Acting from Syracuse University. Before coming to Salesian, I lived in New York City acting in, and directing over a dozen off and off-off Broadway plays. I also toured extensively with an ensemble theatre company on the East Coast, Russian and Estonia. I taught Drama and directed plays at the Convent of the Sacred Heart and The Browning School, both in New York City. In 2004 I spend a wonderful year in England as the Drama Director at The Aldenham School in England, teaching Drama A-Levels and GCSE. I love directing High School plays and teaching Drama to High School students; sharing my love and passion for theatre and being around their enthusiasm. Outside of school I compete in triathlons, travel, go to the theatre and enjoy living.
