At Salesian High School we believe that we form part of a community with a mission to bring love and compassion, justice and truth to one another and to our world. We accept that our Salesian education calls us to become good faith filled people and honest and upright citizens, and calls us to do this together, as a school community.
-
We live out our faith according to the model presented by Christ who came to free the captive, heal the sick and bring sight to the blind. We show our citizenship by our care and concern for one another, for the people of our neighborhood and for our world. In other words, our faith is active, it practices what it preaches, not simply proclaiming what needs to be done, but rolling up our sleeves and doing our part of what needs to be done.
Summary for Student Service Requirements
Each year every Salesian student in any given year must complete the following:
- Participation in Service Day and completion of the self assessment/reflection form
- A service donation event (Thanksgiving Family Food Box/Project Santa)
- A service project of your choice on or off campus and completion of self assessment/ reflection form and a project supervisor’s confirmation of the project completion
Guidelines for on or off Campus Service Project
An on or off campus service project selected by a Salesian High School student must be something that involves more than one event or visit. As a general guideline a minimum of twelve hours of dedication to the project is required. For example, if a student opts to visit an elderly care facility, or get involved in tutoring of younger children, a minimum of six two-hour visits or sessions is required.
Possible on-campus service projects (and any others approved by the CYM):
Students engaged in certain organizations within the school are seen as completing their personal service requirements. For example, all student leaders (SLAM) including Campus Ministry, Story and Song, and Mystery Players are already fulfilling the service requirements. These students will, however, be asked to complete assessment forms regarding their service in these areas in the same way as other students will be required to complete a self-assessment form for each of the three service projects.
