Mission Statement
The Mission of the Salesian High School Cheerleading Squad is to promote school spirit. For participants, cheerleading exists to provide students with a variety of opportunities beyond the scope of the squad: athletic competition, development and exhibition of good sportsmanship skills, refinement of leadership abilities, and reinforcement of the value of academic achievement and good citizenship, as well as nurturing the physical and emotional development of the whole person.
Salesian High School currently has three Cheerleading teams: Freshmen, Junior Varsity, and Varsity, each consisting of a maximum of 35 students. Tryouts occur twice a year, beginning in the late spring as well as in the summer. Practice sessions are scheduled throughout the school year at Jewels Cheer Gyms , 1309 South 51st Street, Richmond, CA 94804. Practice sessions are generally 2-4 hours per week.
The Salesian High School Cheerleading teams participate annually in the JAMZ National Cheerleading Competition in February in Las Vegas, Nevada. Salesian has WON the National Championships four times out of the last five years in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2011.
Other Cheerleading events include JAMZ regional competitions, UCA and USA Cheerleading competitions, participation in the local Solano and El Sobrante Strolls, as well as a variety of other community activities at various middle schools and/or store grand openings.
