Classes
Music I:
Students study musicianship and basic theory. Emphasis is placed on scales, chord structures, technique, and some basic improvisation. There is also a music appreciation component, including discussion of various styles from the American tradition as well as world music.
Music II:
Students work in a band setting studying a variety of styles that come primarily from the American tradition such as jazz, blues, rock, and pop, but also include some international forms. Students study various song forms and use theory to interpret chord changes and improvise over them. Emphasis is placed on playing together as a group.
Performances
The Salesian bands have two scheduled public concerts per year: one each semester in the winter and in the spring, both held in the school gymnasium. The bands perform for various school functions throughout the year, and represent the school at a variety of community events. The bands have made two studio recordings to date, both of which are available for purchase at the concerts.
