Academic Requirements

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CLASS OF 2009

In order to receive a diploma from Salesian High School, students must successfully complete 230 semester credits. This includes coursework from the following:

  • 8 semesters of Religious Studies
  • 8 semesters of English
  • 6 semesters of Social Sciences (World History, U.S. History, Government and Economics)
  • 6 semesters of Mathematics*
  • 4 semesters of Foreign Language*
  • 4 semesters of Science*
  • 3 semesters of Physical Education
  • 2 semesters of Health    
  • 2 semesters of Visual or Performing Arts

*University of California & California State Universities recommend:

  • 8 semesters of Mathematics
  • 6 semesters of Foreign Language
  • 6 semesters of Laboratory Science
 
STUDENTS GRADUATING IN 2010 AND THEREAFTER

must complete at least 250 semester credits. Students are required to pass the following:

  • 8 semesters (40 credits) of Religious Studies
  • 8 semesters (40 credits) of English
  • 6 semesters (30 credits) of Mathematics
  • 6 semesters (30 credits) of Social Sciences (World History, U.S. History, Government and Economics)
  • 4 semesters (20 credits) of Foreign Language
  • 4 semesters (20 credits) of Science
  • 3 semesters of Physical Education (15 units)
  • 1 semester of Health (5 units)
  • 1 semester of Computer Literacy (5 units)
  • 2 semesters of Electives (10)
  • 1 year of Visual or Performing Arts (10 units)
  • 4 years of Christian service (20 hours per year)

CHRISTIAN SERVICE

As a graduation requirement, each Salesian student must complete at least 20 hours of service per year, half of which must be completed within the Salesian High community.  This service is meant to benefit the student’s local church, the Salesian family, the neighborhood, other students, the needy, etc.  The Campus Youth Minister must approve Christian service projects.

 
Salesian High School
