Salesian High is committed to preparing technologically literate life long learners.
We endeavor to create an educational environment for students to achieve their personal, educational and workplace goals that enable them to effectively interact in an information-driven society of the 21st century.
Technology Plan Vision Statement:
We envision an environment that promotes easy access to technology tools and resources for students, teachers, administration and staff. This fosters proficiency in problem solving, communication and productivity. We integrate technology into the curriculum, and diversify instructional methods used in the classroom. We to ensure that technology is used with proper integrity, as we endeavor to protect students from harmful outside influences they may encounter via the use of technology.
Salesian’s first technology plan was finalized in May of 2007. This plan, based on National Education Technology Standards (NETS), outlined infrastructure modifications, network, hardware, software, curriculum, and professional development needs for the entire school community. Our first Director of Technology, Mr. Jeff Bausch, was hired in 2007. He currently oversees, manages, and maintains our entire network, as well as collaborates with the faculty and staff on technology integration.
A Computer Literacy course was launched in 2007 for all incoming freshmen to introduce software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, and database programs. A new computer lab opened on the first floor in 2008, followed by the installation of LCD projectors throughout every classroom in the school. Teachers have benefited from several professional development workshops devoted to technology training and curriculum integration. Several smart boards are used on the third floor in science and math classes. The Art Department now has 2 Mobile Mac Carts used for digital design. Our library currently has 30 computers to assist students with research using the internet or a variety of databases to complete technology based projects assigned in various classes.
Our new Multimedia Center opened in the fall of 2010, adjacent to the library, with an additional 30 high definition computers, smart board, flat screen projection system, and video production capabilities. Faculty may teach a class in the lab, library or Multimedia center as they integrate technology across the curriculum. The administration and our Board of Trustees is committed to support the expansion, maintenance, and integration of technology throughout Salesian High School and help to insure that we remain on the cutting edge of our digital society.
