Salesian High School Graduation Requirements
In order to receive a diploma from Salesian High School, students must successfully complete 250 semester credits. This includes coursework from the following:
- 8 semesters (40 credits) of Religious Studies
- 8 semesters (40 credits) of English
- 6 semesters (30 credits) of Mathematics (CSU and UC recommends 8 semesters of Mathematics)
- 6 semesters (30 credits) of Social Sciences (World History, U.S. History, Government and Economics)
- 4 semesters (20 credits) of Foreign Language (CSU and UC recommends 6 semesters)
- 4 semesters (20 credits) of Science (CSU and UC recommends 6 semesters of Laboratory Science)
- 2 semesters of Physical Education (10 units)
- 1 semester of Health (5 units)
- 1 semester of Computer Literacy (5 units)
- 8 semesters of Electives (40 units)
- 1 year of Visual/Performing Arts (10 units)
Student Service Requirements
Each year every Salesian student in any given year must complete the following:
- Participation in Service Day and completion of the self assessment/reflection form
- A service donation event (Project Santa) and reflection form.
- A service project of the students own choice on or off campus. This includes a completion of a self assessment/reflection form and a project supervisor’s confirmation of the project completion.
California State University & University of California Requirements
Completion of the following high school subjects with a grade of C or better. These include :
- History (2 years)
- English (4 years)
- Mathematics (3 years required, 4 years recommended)
- Laboratory Science (2 years required, 3 years recommended) – taken in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades
- Foreign Language (2 years required, 3 years recommended)
- Visual and Performing Arts (1 year)
- College Preparatory Electives (1 year)
In addition to the subjects required in a - g above, one year chosen from the following areas: Visual and Performing Arts, History, Social Science, English, Advanced Mathematics, Laboratory Science, and language other than English.
(Seven of 15 requirements must be completed in the 11th and 12th grades.)
For California State Universities, a Grade Point Average below 2.99 requires a necessary level of SAT or ACT achievement. The eligibility index is available at http://www.csumentor.edu/. Some CSU campuses require a significantly higher GPA and test scores for admission.
Additionally, University of California schools require a minimum GPA of 3.0, but most require a GPA, test scores (and the writing portion of the SAT reasoning or ACT test) and extra curricular involvement above the minimum needed for eligibility, some well above.
