Principal's Message

Welcome to Salesian High School

In order to know Salesian High School, to know what it means to be Salesian, you must “come and see” the young people, the Salesian students. The experience of young people is the source from which the founder, Saint John Bosco (Don Bosco), began his life’s work. A chance meeting with a young boy, Bartholomew Garelli, seeking shelter from the rain, changed Don Bosco’s life from a parish priest to the charismatic founder of the Salesian Society.

The story of this first meeting tells of Bartholomew’s reprimand by a well intentioned church sacristan, and Don Bosco’s invitation to his unknown “friend” into a welcoming and safe place. From that day Don Bosco’s life-long ministry, previously revealed to him in childhood dreams, centered on the needs of the young. These dreams and this ministry inspired Don Bosco to provide young people a home, a school, a playground, and a church. These four pillars of his ministry became the model for youth to embrace life as good Christians and good citizens.

From his time in the nineteenth century until now, Don Bosco’s dream and ministry enable young people to live in a caring school setting that prepares them for college and life. Salesian is a safe and welcoming place, a home, where students pray, learn, play and return each day to discover their love of learning and to experience a loving God.

The purpose of this website is to welcome you, to provide you the information you are seeking, and to invite you to “come and see” Salesian High School.

Gratefully,

Timothy Chambers
