President's Welcome

Welcome, and thank you for visiting us! Salesian High School lives and embodies the Salesian “oratory” spirit of St. John Bosco (Don Bosco).

We are a home that welcomes, a school that educates, a playground that socializes, and a church that gives meaning to life. Like Don Bosco, we educate the whole person in an environment characterized by “reason, religion, and loving kindness.”

Founded in 1927, Salesian High School began as a seminary for young men interested in joining the Salesians of Don Bosco. In 1960 the seminary moved to Watsonville, and Salesian High School began operating as a local Catholic high school for young men of the Richmond/San Pablo area.

With the closing of Presentation High in Berkeley in 1988, Salesian High School began accepting young women in the Fall of 1989. The class of 1992 was the first co-ed graduating class, and the school continues in this dynamic tradition today.

Salesian High School has over 4,000 alumni living in the Bay Area, various parts of North America, and throughout the world. Among our graduates are doctors, scientists, professors, teachers, business men and women, news reporters, and professional athletes, to name a few of the many professions. The school has a 98-100% acceptance rate of its senior class into college because it offers a full complement of courses meeting the requirements of the University of California system.

As you explore our web site, I hope you feel and experience the joy and peace generated by our Salesian Family—faculty and staff, parents, alumni, and especially the students. I extend an open invitation for you to visit us and to experience the spirit of Don Bosco alive on our campus.

In Don Bosco’s spirit,
Rev. Nicholas J. Reina, SDB
Director/President
